If you have successfully met the requirements listed in Prerequisites Prerequisites, then the next step is to obtain the required upgrade files and utilities.
Aras Update Tool
The first thing you need is the Aras Update tool. This tool can be downloaded from https://www.aras.com/support/downloads.
Aras Update should be downloaded and installed locally on every node that is running a component of Aras Innovator.
Aras Innovator 29 Patch
The next thing you need is the actual patch that allows you to upgrade your existing Aras Innovator 14 or newer instance to Aras Innovator 29. Subscribers can obtain this patch from the Aras Innovator 29 CD Image on the Aras MFT site. If you need help accessing the FTP site, contact Aras Support at the Aras Subscriber Portal.
Once connected to the Aras MFT site, browse to the /InnovatorLatestRelease/Release 29/Release 29 CD Image/Utilities/ folder.
Copy the ‘Aras Innovator 29 Patch.zip’ file to your local machine.
Checking for Additional Features
Aras Innovator allows for the customization of the Aras Innovator code tree and database that could conflict with the patch that is being applied. To help prevent the possible loss of these customizations, please review the following list of features that could be affected by this patch.
Language Packs
The code tree update applied as part of this patch updates the \Innovator\Client\xml folder. The update to this folder requires that any language pack be reviewed and updated for Aras Innovator 29.
To determine what Languages are enabled in your Aras Innovator instance, simply log into Aras Innovator as an Administrator and select Administration --> Localization --> Languages from the TOC.
If languages other than the default, English, are listed, then it is recommended you check for an updated language pack before upgrading.
Aras Applications and Platform Components
If you are using any of the Aras Applications or Platform Components, you must check the supported releases of Aras Innovator before upgrading. You can either check in the Aras Subscriber Portal at https://www.aras.com/SubscriberPortal/support.aspx or contact Aras Corporation Support at Please contact Aras Support at the Aras Subscriber Portal.
The upgrade scripts for Aras Innovator require an Aras.ApplyUpdate Feature in order to run. This Feature is available to subscribers as part of the Aras.EnterpriseSubscription package. To check whether a valid Feature License exists in the Aras Innovator Database:
- Log into Aras Innovator as an administrator.
- Go to Administration\Feature Licenses.
- Check that Aras.EnterpriseSubscription Feature License is present. If this Feature License is found, check the expiration date to confirm that the license is still active.
Requesting a Feature License
In order to request a feature license activation key, customers with an active Aras subscription can send an email to licenses@aras.com or to their account representative using the following format:
- Subject – “Aras Enterprise Subscription Key Required”
- Body - Version of Aras Innovator
You will receive a reply containing the Feature License activation key.
Installing the License
Once you have the activation key, install the feature license as follows:
- Log into Aras Innovator as an administrator.
- From the main menu toolbar, select Tools-->Admin-->Licenses-->Activate Feature.
- Paste the acquired activation key and click Activate Feature button.
A success message similar to the following should appear.
