Glossary of Terms

The table below defines all relevant terms, acronyms, and abbreviations used in the document.

Term Definition
Secure Social Messaging Also known as “Secure Social”, it is the messaging subsystem that underlies Aras Visual Collaboration. It allows posting secure messages in the context of Innovator Items, replying to secure messages thus creating Secure Message threads, aggregating secure messages and/or history events into Discussions.
Secure Message (SM) A message entered interactively in the context of an Innovator Item or as a mark-up in a file viewer integrated with Aras Innovator. A Secure Message can be posted to one and only one Board. It can be aggregated into unlimited number of Discussions.
Board A Message Board (wall) where Secure Messages are posted and stored. Each Board belongs to one and only one Innovator Item. A single Innovator Item can have zero or one Board.
Discussion Item-centric set of Secure Messages and/or history events from one or multiple Boards that are a result of read-only aggregation based on one or more Feeds. Each Innovator Item can have zero or one Discussion.
Feed A function in Innovator that returns a set of Secure Messages and\or History records associated with a set of items.
Forum A free-form subject exchange of Secure Messages. Forum might also reference individual items and\or searches to incorporate the Secure Messages associated with these items and\or search results, into the Forum.
SM Reply A Secure Message that is entered in reply to any other Secure Message. All the SM replies subordinate to the top-level Secure Message that originates the SM thread.
SM Thread A combination of the top-level Secure Message that originated the SM Thread, any replies to it, and any tags (Flagged and Rating) associated with the SMs in the Thread.
My Discussions The main entry point to Aras Visual Collaboration, located in the TOC under My Innovator.
VC Short for Visual Collaboration, the end-user functionality
SSVC Short for Secure Social Visual Collaboration, which means the combination of both the messaging sub-system and end-user functionality
