Aras Innovator Migration to .NET 10
Summary
Aras Innovator is planning a platform-wide migration from .NET 8 to .NET 10 across Innovator and supporting components.
Why this change
Microsoft ends .NET 8 Long Term Support (LTS) on November 10, 2026. Moving to .NET 10 keeps Innovator aligned to an LTS framework (supported through November 2028) to support customer compliance and security requirements.
Microsoft releases a new major version of .NET each year. LTS releases are supported longer and are typically preferred for enterprise deployments.
- .NET 8 LTS end of support:November 10, 2026 (no further security updates or fixes from Microsoft after this date).
- .NET 10 LTS support window:Supported through November 2028, helping customers remain on a fully supported framework for security and compliance needs.
Aras is updating Innovator and related components to run on .NET 10. This includes updates to internal code, build processes, and third-party dependencies as needed for compatibility.
- Web framework alignment:Updates to match current ASP.NET hosting and networking practices and remove reliance on older APIs.
- Cross-platform behavior:Test updates to account for minor OS-level differences (for example, date/time formatting on Linux).
- Build tooling updates:CI/build agents and packaging are being updated to support .NET 10 builds.
- Dependency refresh:Third-party libraries are being upgraded to address security findings and improve maintainability.
Components in scope
The migration includes Innovator Core (Server, Client, OAuth, Vault, Conversion, and Agent endpoints, plus shared plug-ins) and the following related components.
- Applications:Event Handling Framework (EHF 14.3.0) and OAuth Registry (OAR 14.2.0) will be updated and validated for .NET 10.
- Tools:Aras Update and Package Import/Export will be updated to run in a .NET 10 environment. Where required, multi-targeting will be used to preserve compatibility with supported versions.
- Developer packages (SDKs):Innovator Object Model (IOM) and Aras.Net packages will be updated to support .NET 10 standardization.
- First .NET 10–compliant release: Innovator R39 (14.39.0).
- Backport/patch strategy: After R39, Aras will deliver patches for supported Innovator versions, starting with Innovator R32.
- Additional supported versions: Additional patches and hotfixes will follow for other supported on-premises Innovator versions, prioritized by end-of-life dates and customer adoption.
- Build readiness: Build agents for these release streams are being prepared for .NET 10 builds.
